The EVN Wine Academy was established jointly with Semina Consulting in 2014 to offer short courses for wine enthusiasts, as well as a professional 18-month certificate program in Enology and Wine Business. The certificate program is provided jointly by ICARE and Geisenheim University, Germany.

The Armenian wine industry has entered a phase of development that can be coined “back to the origins.” The country has a history of over 6,000 years of industrial winemaking, but had lost this reputation over the past 70 years. Over the past year, EVN’s innovative Enology and Wine Business curriculum has become a significant factor helping the developing wine industry to become internationally competitive. The program was developed by and is taught jointly with the German Geisenheim University, by whom it is also funded. The Wine Academy is also providing short-term training courses for both wine professionals and wine lovers, which is aiding the Armenian revival of its historic reputation as a wine-drinking society.

EVN Wine Academy’s experience, reinforced by the results of ICARE’s recent Baseline Study of the Armenian Wine Sector, has clearly shown a gap between the industry needs and the outdated knowledge taught by the higher and vocational professional schools. Therefore, EVN will promote admission of students from businesses active in Armenia and abroad.

The industry in Armenia is rapidly developing with the emergence of modern wineries that produce internationally competitive wines. At EVN and ICARE we are inspired to contribute to the development by making the best wines known internationally. We implement quality assurance procedures, organize student-staff-alumni social events, involve exchange students, as well as strengthen our internship programs with cooperating partner wineries.

EVN is furthering the improvement of the internal learning environment by increasing the technological sophistication of the educational process. EVN has established a student wine lab and a tasting room on the premises of the Armenian National Agrarian University. Our students are also involved with ICARE research activities to increase industry exposure. EVN intends to strengthen ties between academia and industry to ensure job placement for our graduates.
